Bulbophyllum quadrangulare

Bulbophyllum quadrangulare.

A beautiful species from PNG and Irian Jaya.

Although I have a plant of this species, the above image was not taken by me, it was sent to me from a friend who also grows Bulbo's. I have seen his plant which is around 1 meter long and a half meter wide. A sight to behold when full of these bright yellow 7cm long flowers. There is also another colour version perhaps not as desireable as this one which has slightly smaller flowers and is a light reddish-brown colour.

Can't wait for mine to flower.

Thanks to the random image

Missed this one before, thanks to the random images I have seen it now.
A specimen plant 1 meter by 1/2 a meter in full flower with 7 cm yellow flowers would be a sight to see. Some questions, has it long rhizomes, single flower on a short or long stem? Does it have a scent? Is it a large plant?

quadrangulare

Eric, Yes this has long rhizomes with the psuedobulbs up to 5cm apart; the scape is up to 15cm long which (depending on the length of the scape) can be upright, horizontal or pendant with one single flower. The flowers are not scented.

An addition to the presentation of a large mounted plant is the attraction of the foliage which hangs down and the flowers present themselves at different angles.

Are you going to the WOC in Singapore? I hope to be there, I'm just finalising the travel arrangements.

Yes

Yes Bernard we are going. At the moment a friend is getting together a tour to go to the conference and then on to Thailand. Should this fail Rosanna and I will make our own arrangements. We won't be registering just going to look and sight see and meet with some friends.
Are you going on your own and are you going to register? I will keep in touch. Let me know when and where you will be there.
It will be good to meet up with you again.

WOC

My wife Sylvia is also going with me. I think that there is a lot of one-up-manship at these events and don't want to take part in the preliminaries, so we won't be registering either.
Will let you know dates, hotel etc when I have booked, hopefully, some time today. I hear on the grapevine that some of the hotels are already fully booked.

How many bulbs have you got on your quadrangulare and how long have you had it? the more bulbs-the better the show.

Haven't

Must be a misunderstanding, I don't have a Bulb. quadrangulare but would love one. Have never seen one for sale in Australia but there may be a collector that has one if so I would be interested in buying or swapping a division.

Rain

Hi Eric , how are you going with all this rain & cyclone recovery ? We have had just over 400 mm for the week so far ( Just north of Townsville ) .
Cheers
Brendon

Just a bit

Hi Brendon,we have had just a bit more than you 461mm in the last 5 days. This has hampered any work in the yard. Still a few trees to clean up and about 2 hours work to finish repairing the last shade house. Next is to put some order in side the shade houses, a bit of cleaning and repoting. With all the rain we have had since TC Yasi, a lot more than the 461mm this week I need 4 feet drive just to get to the shade houses, other than that all is fine.
