This species is endemic to Irian Jaya and belongs in section Ephippium, The flowers are 8cm long with the lateral sepals twisted, a similar species is B.streptosepalum, which is from the same area and somewhat smaller.
The normal colour for these two species is a cream background with dark purplish markings on the dorsal and at the base of the laterals. This plant is no longer with me.
