Stanhopea warscewicziana

Stanhopea warscewicziana

I got this plant without a name and this is the first time it has flowered for me. Doing some research I have come up with the name of Stanhopea warscewicziana. I need anyone who knows something about Stanhopeas to verify it's ID for me.
I have a friend who grows a lot of Stanhopeas but at the moment he is away with work and I can't contact him but will ask when he comes home.
Some stats............
LEAF..........70cm
LEAF WIDTH....14cm
BULBS.........40mm in dia.
FLOWERS/SPIKE. 8
MY PLANT.......8 spikes
FLOWER SIZE W.11cm
FLOWER HEIGHT.70mm

Stanhopea ID?

Wow, must be a very well grown specimen
to have 8 spikes. It will be a privilege to
see this when the plant is in full bloom.

Thank you for sharing the photos.I hope
someone can help with the identification.

Stanhopea Warscewicziana as I understand is not
a common hybrid which one find in grower's
collections. I am just a novice restarting
my stanhopeas collection.

Thank you

Stanhopea

Eric, Congratulations for showing this well grown and floriferous species.
Most of the species in the genus Stanhopea are variable in their colouration, yet real albinos are seldom seen. Albinos or Anthocyanine free forms with pure white or white-green colour are known from many orchid species.

Eric's species pictured above could well be Stanhopea reichenbachiana. I don't think that I have seen any other colour form other than white, of this species.

Spaecies

Hi Danny, Stanhopea warszewicziana is a species and not a hybrid.

Full bloom

Hi Danny, I have just uploaded another photo of this plant with more flowers open. This will be the best I can to show it in full bloom as the flowers don't last that long. One spike has already been cut off.

Stanhopea warscewicziana

Bernabu, I don’t think this one is Stanhopea reichenbachiana. Although both Stanhopea reichenbachiana and Stanhopea warscewicziana appear to have swollen hypochile’s, and look similar, reichenbachiana produces hornless flowers. Also warscewicziana is more likely to produce the larger number of flowers per spike, as shown in the photos.
If I had to pick one, I’d say Stanhopea warscewicziana.
Eric, what can I say except simply stunning. It seems with every post you put up, I get a little greener with envy!!!!

Stanhopea

Thanks for the info Terry, Stanhopea is not my first choice in orchids although I have had one or two in the past. I just have a Coryanthes albarosea at the moment which I have hand pollinated successfully several times.

I'll wait

I am going to wait befor I do an edit until my friend comes back from the mines and see what he has to say about the name of this plant.
I am leaning towards Stanhopea warscewicziana as the name at the moment. I have email the person I got the plant from but I don't know if he is still using a computer
