EOI/For Sale: Orchid Flasks - updates ongoing
Hey Everybody,
I'm hoping to guage peoples interest in purchasing some flasks that i have been given access to. This may become and ongoing thing dependent on the levels of interest and is something that i'm keen to look at doing. All flasks come from a reputable laboratory and have between 40 - 50 plants per flask they are impressive crosses and will definitely contribute well to your collection.
Please contact me via the contact tab to express your interest... prices are yet to be finalised and i will advise ASAP of those. If you would like any clarification on the crosses etc then feel free to ask
I currently have access to the following (Names with TBA beside them are being checked for their registration/accuracy of naming):
Out of interest - has Brassolaeliocattleya been replaced with Ryncholaeliocattleya?
Just working on updating the post in accord with forum rules and correct names etc - i'll finish it off ASAP

check
I know that this is a big list, but it's my opinion that you should check that these are valid names, I checked a couple and gave up. IE. Rubellite Milky Meteor and Magenta Diamond Star don't exist, and as this site only allows valid names it stands to reason that any that arn't valid should be removed.

Cattleya intermedia 'Violet
Cattleya intermedia 'Violet Thrust' is not a C. intermedia.
It looks like a C. amethystoglossa or a hybrid with C. amethystoglossa.
Thanks for your feedback guys
Thanks for your feedback guys regarding the names - i've asked the supplier to give me more details as i had a few doubts about some too... I'll remove any that arent appropriately named as i dont want to be offering anything that is not
Catts
I'm sorry to say this but alot of the catts have wrong names..
I'm chasing it up migocab -
I'm chasing it up migocab - i'm not a catt grower so i'm not familiar with what's out there... some stood out to me as being a bit odd and i have asked for clarification on those. Any that are wrong i'm more than happy to hear from people about as i dont want to be selling something to people that isnt quality or correct/accurate
Words and no action.

"I'll remove any that arent appropriately named as i dont want to be offering anything that is not."
Quoted from your post above.
No action only words until now.
Questionable names
I also see some questionable names, Oncidium x Vanda, I don't think so. A bright orange Vanda coerulea??? must be worth millions. Oncid longpipes?? its an Epidendron.
Sorry, I couldn't believe any label written.
names
I'm working through them myself at the moment - not looking too promising on some of them. If the supplier doesnt come through with something meaningful and accurate i'm going to be pulling the post...
Orchid flasks for sale
I have just received an email from a valued member who points out that 95% of the names of the orchids offered for sale are incorrect.
Cattleyas are not my thing but I understand his points.
He raises two valid and important points.
1. It is clearly stated in the terms of use of what names are to be used.
2. If people around the world Google in these names they will think that OOL endorses them.
3. At the very least invitro should have checked the names before submitting them.
My personal view is that Daniel (invitro) classes himself as a novice grower, but with all the flasks offered for sale, could indicate otherwise? is he in business?
To avoid any confusion, any submissions with multiple content offered for sale should state clearly the status of the vendor
Finally I think that multiple sale items should be kept on a seperate page, with a caveat, that names given are not necessarily accepted by the Admin Team, which would hopefully, save any confusion with the endorsement of incorrect names.

Delete
I think this post should be deleted until the correct names are found for the images if that can be done. If people around the world GOOGLE these names they will think that OOL endorses them and this site is far to good to get a bad reputation for the wrong names on plants. All the names should be researched before being posted. We have the the Monocot list so they can be checked.

names and site policy
I also have received an email or two on this subject
first I would like to clear up what the name policy pertains to here on Orchids Online
the policy is only really applicable to posts which the author expects/wishes to be included in the A-Z book pages
to be clear....this post will not be included in that area
the fact that these flask have been listed here...albeit with incorrect names does not worry me too much (as an admin)
the seller was only asking for "expressions of interest" after all
to me, these flasks would be worthless without correct names and I personally would not be interested to buy any
should the post be deleted? I see no real reason for that and the fact that there is open, civilised discussion here on Orchids Online makes it clear to all our respective positions on the points raised in this discussion
finally...
please revisit this post http://orchidsonline.com.au/node/7393 and ask yourself this.
Do I always comply with what is asked when I post my photos?
Regards wellsy
I try
Steve,
I can only speak for myself on this, I try very hard when I post a image here to make sure it is correct, sometimes I need help like we all do sometimes. I think that if people are allowed to post plants with invalid names on this site this only drags this site down to the same level as a lot of other sites that don't care about correct names etc. I realy DO NOT SEE THE DIFFERENCE if it is a permanet or for sale or whatever type of post, it should be as close as possible to correct. My 50c's worth.

Reputable!?!?
Quote from the text above:
"All flasks come from a reputable laboratory"
How reputable is a laboratory or a seller that uses names which are in reality omitting vital information about the product.
In many countries this is prohibit by law.
My suggestion to Invitro is: Delete the post and get your list back when you have the correct information.
You are harming your reputation as a seller with every negative comment. You collected already to many of them.
You want to make business? Then you have to offer what your customer want. Certainly we don't want a fantasy product.
Sales/promotion??
My veiws on this subject are perhaps formed by my 40 years with my own retail business.
You must let your customers know, who you are, where you are, and what you are about. You must also have detailed and correct knowledge on the products you are selling, and respect and fulfill your cutomers expectations.
No doubt my concerns are that by invitro's own admission, he is a novice grower.
I would ask Admin to seriously consider a sales area on this site, so that there is no confusion and members can peruse the plants offered for sale.
Add on, I am obviously refering to a bona fide orchid sales business and not single offers by members.

Remove
I accept what Steve has said but I would agree with the more recent posts. I would think Invitro has posted this list in good faith but lacks some knowledge in what he is trying to sell. Leaving the list for all to view can only damage invitros reputation as a seller and cause members etc wondering what the heck they have run into. I believe it should be removed.
Site protection
Hi All,
While I understand and respect Wellsy's position on this, I believe this post should be removed until the names of these plants are verified by Invitro, to the satisfaction of the members of this site. I work in the retail industry, and our office is currently trying to clean up the mess created by someone selling a product, with misleading information. The problems that are created when this happens are huge, with legal implications also. In order to protect the site and the admins, the post should be removed, and I suggest it be done by Invitro himself voluntarily, until the names are verified. The site should not be seen to be condoning this post.

Steve
Steve, your comment here,
http://orchidsonline.com.au/node/8311
has nothing to do with this post above. You bought your plant as a Renanthera sp. but it turned out to be a primary hybrid, you were not sold a plant with a specific name.
The situation on this thread is the use of specific names for hybrids that are mostly BOGUS (made up, invalid, rubbish, not registered) but are being advertised as being valid (the way they are written).
The photos of the species on offer appear to me as not being much better and not true to type, but I'm no expert on species.
The actual photos of these plants appear (in my opinion) to have been lifted from Mr. Iam Agolta Ho's E-Bay site ( Silla Glamour appear's to be the trading name ) and I see no authority quoted by Invitro to use them on this Website.
The bottom line Steve, this thread is misleading advertising and below the high standard of content on OOL.

I'm With Buckie
The sooner this thread is disposed of, the better, it is bring disrepute to OOL's reputation.
Maybe there should be some background checks by Wellsy prior to this type of post going out.
We have our long time reputable breeders who you can trust when they offer stock for sale, but I think "newbie" dealers /dealer agents need to be scrutinised a bit, for accuracy of breeding / nomenclature of the stock being offered.
The lesson to be learnt here is, if you are acting on behalf of a grower, check the facts first by doing your homework and not take things purely on face value when there is this much stock on offer.

Heard from
The last this site has heard from invitro was on the 9/12/09 that is a week now I'm sure he has been on line since then. I would have hoped he had taken notice of all the negative comments and deleted the post by now.
There is always time to put up another post after he has done more research on the names or when he receives confirmation or anything from his source.
Other than that maybe the admin. could contact him via his tab or delete the post as this I'm sure is going to hurt OOL good reputation on the web.

Learning experience - apology to forum
G'day Guys,
Thanks for all of your feedback on this post - this has very much been a learning experience for me... I am a novice grower and one who has never had experience in this sort of thing before. I had been made an offer of some flasks which seemed 'too good to be true' and thought i would pass it on... clearly, based on your feedback, my own personal research (which should have been done long before making the offer), my communications with the person offering these and also my researching that same person on other forums and ebay listings it has very quickly come to my attention that i am not trusting now, nor in the future, their offerings. I know it has been sometime since i was last on the forum and that is through no reason other than being incredibly busy with work etc. I'm not in anyway wanting to pass off inferior product to anybody and i recommend (as many of you have already decided based on your greater experience than mine) that you do not buy any of those that i have listed - i also recommend that you ignore anyone offering orchids as "silla_glamour".
As mentioned earlier this has been very much a learning experience for me and has left me wondering whether you can really trust any supplier - at the end of the day i think the best way to gauge a companies integrity is based on feedback from those more experienced. That being the case i am going to take a back seat - continue to grown and learn in my knowledge, and learn a valuable lesson from this. I would like to look at the possibility of bringing some flasks in and offering them to forum members but i will definitely be doing it much more differently than i did here and, if the forum members are willing to help me, ask for your advice also...
To all forum members i offer a blanket apology - thank you for your feedback - my apologies if the perception was given that i was trying to deceive anyone - i genuinely wasnt and i clearly have a lot more to learn. I am going to delete the offerings but i will leave the topic up so hopefully people can read how i feel about it and accept my apology
Again, please accept my apologies
Warren, you are correct, they
Warren, you are correct, they were from Silla Glamour - they were posted with permission
