Dendrobium wardianum
Hi Bernard, and Davo,
I just thought about "soft-cane" dendrobium!
I found your answer the best, Davo!

Dendrobium sp
If we could see the plant we could identify it as D. falconeri when stems are multi-branched and leaves less than 5 mm wide or D. wardianum when stems unbranched and leaves more than 5 mm wide.
According to The Flora of China Volume 25 Orchidaceae, the veination of the sepals is different between D. falconeri and D. wardianum. The sepals of D. falconeri have 8 or 9 veins and the sepals of D. wardianum have 7 veins.
My opinion is that it is D. falconeri. I do not know if it is a hybrid.

Hi Rik,
In all the wardianum's I have seen, the dark red in the throat is usually 2 seperate patches,as opposed to falconeri, where the red in the throat is one larger patch. Your final comment, (My opinion is that it is D. falconeri. I do not know if it is a hybrid)is a condradiction, falconeri is a species.

Dendrbium wardianum
Hi Bernabu,
I agree with Davo's original thought that this is Dendrobium wardianum. The stems of Den. falconeri are more slender and nobbly at the nodes.
Cheers.
