Chysis is a genus of 12 epiphytic or lithophytic plants found from Mexico, through Peru to the Andes in Venezuela. Chysis are psuedobulbous plants which have decidous, plicate leaves. The inflorescence arises from the side of the old psuedobulb at the same time as the new growth at the onset of warmer weather. They bear a few thick, waxy and showy flowers which tend to last well.
