Dendrobium wangliangii
ID updated as per below comments.
As far as I know this image is of a new, as yet, unnamed miniature species of Dendrobium from China. The psuedobulbs are 3cm long. The plant has a long dry rest
when the leaves drop. Then after several months and the plant looks shrivelled and almost dead, single flowers appear from each bulb, the flowers are larger than the length of the bulbs. Have attached two further images.
p.s. Many thanks to migicab for finding the name D.wangliangii for this new species which was registered 2008.

Yin-Tung Wang,PhD
I have just been doing some research on Dr Yin-Tung Wang one of the authors who described our Dendrobium wangliangii. Evidently, he is a well known researcher at the Texas Agricultural Station in South Texas and is a member of the AOS Research
Committee and was awarded a grant from that committee in 1995 to investigate a technique for the delay of spike initiation in Phalaenopsis.

Great info
Thank you both. Just placed an inquiry about getting one; in the meantime, enjoying the photos. What's the culture like?

REP, This species is best mounted and placed in an intermediate temperature.
When new growth appears (with, or just after flowering, see image) then start watering carefully, avoid getting the new growths wet. When the bulb starts forming you can then water and feed carefully. Like other deciduous Dendrobiums they only have a relatively short time to make the bulbs up so measured feeding is important. After the leaves have fallen you should stop watering. If the bulbs look to be too dessicated you can spray lightly.

I also talk to one of the Chinese Forum in Yunan and this is what I see a bit different in shape and color of this species, here is the link: http://yanghua.5d6d.com/thread-4176-1-1.html

Thanks chowie, I have seen the images on the link you gave, yes it shows a lighter coloured version of this species and the image is not as well defined. But the overall presentation of the plant and flowers are identical.

I managed to get a few plants
I managed to get a few plants of this. I took a new growth of one plant and put it into phal meristem media and it has done well on that. I now have a multi-growth plant in flask and have passed it to a friends lab to divide up and make some flasks. He is going to try to clone it as well. Fingers crossed it all works out.
