Broughtonia R. Brown 1813
Type Species: Broughtonia sanguinea (Sw.) R. Brown. 1813
Tribe: EPIDENDREAE
Subtribe: LAELIINAE
Country: Jamaica and Cuba
A genus of only 2 species which have good sized, brightly coloured flowers as well as being quite small growers. These are closely allied to Cattleyas and the like (Cattleya alliance) and are used with good results in breeding with allied genera producing the notable manmade genus Cattletonia.
The Broughtonias are most happy when grown on a hardwood or cork mount in bright light with warm, moist, breezy conditions.
