Davo,
I am unable to find any registration for Wanvipa.
Can you help?

Dendrobium Wanvipa
I think you will need to do some more checking Davo as I believe Barry is right with this one. There does not seem to be any registration for Dendrobium Wanvipa

Wanvipa
Hi Guys,
No argument from me on the name Wanvipa not being registered, I could not find it either, but have found mention of it when googled, so I will stick with it for now, it may be a new unregistered hybrid. Actually Julz posted an image in Feb 09 of a chao praya cross and Migocab made comment on it, I cant find the post, maybe you can track it down Wellsy.

.wanvipa
This is my cross labelled .wanvipa.
Wanvipa
Is this what you are looking for Dave? http://orchidsonline.com.au/node/5754
I tried reversing the spelling, changing fonts etc. to no avail. Only the Thai orchid hybridisers would know about this hybrid.
Den Madame Vipa
Another very popular Den. hybrid: Den. Madame Vipa

But, it's impossible that the label mispelled Madame Vipa into Wanvipa?
TPLV
Thats the one
Yes Thats the one, I think Julz may have bought his plant from the same place as me, Fame Orchids, I will speak to the owner next time I am in there.

FAME
Davo,
I did buy mine from FAME.
I also found reference to a Den. Wanvipa x Den. Dal’s Dream at Burbank Orchids. Maybe they're getting them from the same supplier.
Julz.
Wanvipa
Hi Julz,
You are correct there, I have also seen it on the Burbank lists.
I will stick with the name for now, as Wanvipa is obviously out there.

Davo, I spoke to Wendy Swan
Davo,
I spoke to Wendy Swan from Burbank about wanvipa. She said that, Them along with Fame and Aranbeem had all got this name from a Graham McKay.
Wendy said they'd had no luck in finding any other references either. But She also said that Graham imports alot of dens from Thailand, And that maybe the name was lost in translation their.
The only thing they could come up with was the aforementioned 'Madame Vipa'.
The only way I could see this confusion taking place is if the label read -
'M.vipa' and the 'M' was read as a 'W'. Or maybe it read, 'mad.vipa' and it looked like 'wad.vipa', with the D not being able to make out, Or looking like an N. e.g. 'wan.vipa'.
Hope this helps.
Thanks Julz
Hi Julz,
Thanks for that info, I have heard of Graham McKay, I will see if I can track him down and get more info.
