Red splashes!

Warren,

Watch the fertilizer! The Rsc. Toshie Aoki 'Carmela' I know doesn't have that much red color splashes on the petals and sepals.
Years ago I mixed hormone in to the liquid fertilizer. One drop a gallon sometimes two drops a gallon.
After a year of applying this mix, some of my semi-alba hybrids got splashes from the lip color on to the sepals and petal.
You might have the same problem.
Later I will post a photo from my plant.

Interesting comment

I had the same splashes on my petals and sepals this flowering.

REd splashes

Most of my light colored catts get some red blushes especially yellows and peaches.

Rsc. Toshie Aoki 'Carmela' variations

This turns out to be an interesting case. Interesting enough to hear other peoples opinions also.
Look what I did find on the internet. See below URL's.

The flowers on this three URL's are similar to my plant.

The flower on this URL locks like a cross in between Buckie's plant and my plant

Years ago my opinion was, that mericlones are always identical. It doesn't matter how many clones where made they look all identical.
During the years of growing orchids I was wondering sometimes why my friends plant looked different then my plant.
Last year one of my friends in one of our discussions mentioned that mericlones are genetically identical, but this doesn't mean they have to look exactly the same.

I have some knowledge, but not enough to judge what's the reason why Buckie's Carmela looks different than my Carmela.
And obviously somehow Carmela's from one source look different than Carmela's from an other source. Or a more crazy thought, that Carmela's from the same source look different from each other.

Getting back to my original thoughts. Hormones and certain fertilizer have the side effects I mentioned in my post yesterday. After doing all this thinking and surfing the net, personally I can not rule out the possibility that one of the suppliers did overdose his plants with hormones and this is causing the transfer from lip pigments to the petals and sepals.

It is always my intention to help and make the most useful comments on the OOL website. Some times my mind might not see the whole extend of a subject at the very moment. Other peoples comments will help to open up our minds. And that's the beauty of an open discussion.

Does somebody else can help us to get smarter?
