Stenoglottis Lindley 1837
Type Species: Stenoglottis fimbriata Lindley 1837
Tribe: ORCHIDEAE
Subtribe: ORCHIDINAE
Pronunciation: Sten-OH-glot-iss
Temperature: C.I.W.
Country: Southern Africa
A mainly terrestrial genus which includes 4 species found in Southern Africa. These plants emerge from tuberous roots at the commencement of the wet season in their homeland after remaining leafless over the dry season. This cycle should be heeded when under cultivation with a drier rest when the plants have flowered and lose their leaves. They like good light (as for Dendrobiums) and give plenty of water and fertilizer while in active growth.
