Type Species: Scaphosephalum octhodes (Rchb.f) Pfitz. 1888
Tribe: Epidendreae
Subtribe Pleurothallidinae
Distribution: Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Guyana, Venezuela, Guiana, Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador and Peru
There are around 40 valid species listed on the RHS website (http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/) which are found in mossy cloud forests at elevations of 500 to 3000m. Plants are similar to Masdevallia (the genus from which many of these species were removed) and can be miniature to medium sized.
