Type: Sarcochilus falcatus R.Br.
Subtribe: SARCANTHINAE
Sarcochilus is genus comprising 14 monopodial species occuring predominantly in eastern Australia with 2 species found in New Caledonia.
Most species are sub-tropical (Queensland-New South Wales) however they are also found in Victoria and tropical Qld with one species being found in Tasmania.
Cultivation
The smaller of these miniature plants are best grown on slabs of cork, treefern fibre or hardwood. Larger growing species and specimens can be grown in shallow pots, baskets or saucers filled with coarse bark and charcoal mixes. Some growers use inverted terracotta pots to grow the lithophytic species.
Hybrids
There are many fine hybrids made using Sarcochilus including intergeneric hybrids with Vanda (Sarcovanda) and Plectorrhiza (Plectochilus) and Rhinerrhiza (Rhinochilus)
