I purchased this orchid with the label Den anosum. Do you agree it is more likely to be Den aduncum?
I agree this is definitly not D. anosmum.
The photo is a bit hard to get much detail but if you compare to this one (especially the close-up) maybe/maybe not http://www.orchidspecies.com/denadunctum.htm
I think maybe this picture gives a closer match - http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1070/539272126_3e6a3f337f.jpg?v=0
What do you think?
Hi Sibbie, has your flower got a very sharp point at the lip, I can't tell from this photo, if it has, you would be correct with Den. aduncum.
Flowers are gone now Bill, but shall try and load another photo showing whole plant.
I also found it identical to Den. Aduncum:
I saw 2 links w Den.Aduncum & Den. Anosmum
Whereas, as w Den. Anosmum:
Looks like your having trouble loading the other photos Sibbie, you can always Email them to me and I will fix it for you.
Hi Bill, Yes, I had awful trouble. How do I find your email address please?
Sibbie should have my Email address now, as soon as I get the photos I'll post them so you can all see them.
to email anyone on the site you visit their contact tab
click their username and click 'contact'
if they wish to, they will then get back to you
Sibbie has provided more photos above, we (Sibbie and I) now think this plant could be Den linquella.
Sibbie, That is one very distinctive pristine flower and a very sharp image. Hard to believe that it belongs to the scraggly plant you show in your earlier image.
Yes, It is a strange and scraggly plant but the flowers are very beautiful though small. There are a whole lot of new buds or shoots coming out along the canes this week. If they all turn out to be bunches of flowers it should be quite a sight. Will post a photo in due course if worthwhile.
Hi all, I have just surfed the net and looked at lots of photos of both Den aduncum and Den linguella and compared them with my plant. I become increasingly convinced that it very like or identical to Den linguella. If it is Den linguella, one website suggested it makes a good specimen plant given plenty of room.
The new buds continue to swell.
What's the difference between Den linguella and aduncum?
Ian, linguella has a cone shaped structure near the base of the labellum, Den. aduncum doesn't.
We are waiting for Sibbie's flowers to be sure of the ID.
