Bulbophyllum fletcherianum

Bulbophyllum fletcherianum

At last I have been able to flower this plant well enough for the flowers to actually open up enough to see some detail. Usually these tend to remain quite tightly cupped and the inner details remain a secret.

I hope you all enjoy these shots as much as I have enjoyed taking them....very satisfying!

Congratulations Steve, these are some of the best close-up images I have seen of this species, as you say in your submission, to capture the central part of the flowers is invariably difficult. I especially like the first image which shows the unique texture of the flowers which together with the somewhat unpleasant odour represent rotting flesh to the pollinators, blow flies.
bernabu

stunningly unique flowers

Glad you appreciate them as well Bernard.

The odour aspect of these is an interesting one.

I can be up to 15m away and withough warning get a really strong burst of the rotting stench but close up I have rarely been overly troubled. Sure you can smell them but not so bad that you would not approach for a closer look at these stunningly unique flowers.
