Wanted to buy cymbidium

growingcym

Thank you very much for your suggestions.

Bunning recently have 10cm pot size seedlings @$9-98 from
Cyms nurseries but very small single bulb often without new
spike. Bought 12 seedlings and will try and see how long to take
the seedlings to flower.

Still prefer to buy from private growers with surplus plants if possible.Hope someone can help.

Happy to meet, pay cash and collect.

Starting cym collection as my last phaleanopsis collection (60 flowering plants) died due to neglect and absence as a result of illness. Feel that I cxan manage Cym better.

Find a Local Orchid Club

My suggestion is to find a local Orchid Club and join it.

You will meet like minded people, and most clubs like mine have orchid raffles, trading tables etc plus you network with hobby growers who always have divisions at reasonable prices and in a lot of cases better stock than commercial growers.

They grow for quality not quantity.

Best thing I ever did was to join a club.

I have won a lot of interesting plants from raffles.

Thank you to Wellsy for your suggestion.
Networking with like minded growers is very meaningful

To Mitchamon, Anton, Wellsy,

To Mitchamon, Anton, Wellsy, Olney12 and Christine,

I have follow and take up all your advice. I did more research, seeking out sellers- both on Ebay and nurseries etc, more important "to network" and lastly consider to join a orchid club soon.

My newly started collection is up to 40 plants now and I am looking after them as per some amny information of Cymbidium culture. I will try deflask and compot as well.

So, just a quick update. More important to THANK YOU all for your help, and sharing your knowledge with me.

I will settle with growing Cymbidium with happiness and joy!

growing cymbids

Hi there, I have just taped in to this conversation, Royal Orchids have a Huge display of cymbids in the Sydney orchids, look them up on the internet. If you want to grow cymbids, look for the books, "I've Got Spikes" and "more cymbidiums" produced by Graham Guest in South Australia. They are one of the leading producers of cymbids and you will find that a lot of their plants end up in Bunnings. You should not have any trouble growing cymbids in Sydney. I have bought orchids online and have had some disasters, but some great one's, pick your contacts, look at their history if you are going on e-bay. but as they have said, talk to your local orchid society. To Onley12....appreciate the references given for Sydney and South Australia. I will check these out.Hope to attend some local orchid shows and to buy some plants as well.

I have decided to just grow Cyms only and
not others as I just love the lovely blooms.
Thank you very much.

Orchid Society

The closest Orchid Society to you is the Manly Warringah Orchid Society, they meet every 4th Thursday of the month at at the Cromer Community Centre, Fisher Road North, Cromer NSW 2099. There website is www.orchidsociety.com.au. You will meet many orchid maniacs they also have sales tables were the member sell plants plus the occasional auction.
Just go as a visitor and see if you like it, be carefull if you buy on e-bay so, a lot of Cymbids have viruses I can assure you if you meet orchid members at the Society you will find out all the good sellers, also have a look at the Australian Orchid Review they have a section just on Cymbids. Orchid Societies also have good books that you can read, regards Christine
