Stanhopea tigrina Bateman, Orchid. Mexico Guatemala: t. 7 (1838).
Distribution: Mexico
A spectacular flower which has to be seen at close quarters to be belived. Wonderfully sculptured as if it was carved out of wax. Easily grown in a hot and bright area but best grown in a basket where it is possible for the flower spikes to grow down to the bottom of the basket to emerge and put on this show.

Stanhopea tigrina
Hi wellsy, nice colours, and an unusual colour combination for tigrina. Perhaps this species looks a lot heavier in it's usual chocolate brown colours.

appreciate your advice
Are you saying this may not be tigrina Bernard? I would appreciate your advice if you think it may be something else.

tigrina
Looks like tigrina to me, what I am saying wellsy, is that I have'nt seen one so light coloured before and it looks a much brighter lighter flower.

always wondered
Thanks Bernard....I have always wondered about this one myself really....had it for years. The chocolate coloured one is the most often photgraphed I think so when you commented it made me think again.
