Hey Bernard. Tainia is an

Hey Bernard. Tainia is an accepted genus in Orchidacea?

Tainia Blume, Bijdr.: 354 (1825).

I'm confused? Is your genus spelt differently maybe?

OOOPs....very confused...I thought Bernard was commenting on the Nepenthes photo which was close by in the recent posts. Sorry all!

Regards wellsy

Tainia

Hiya, there has been a revision done and an orchid monograph (vol. 6) has been published which group few genera together (Mischobulbum, Tainia, Ania etc.). For those who are interested, you can check out the orchid monographs (total; 8 volumes) in this site;

Daniel.

Mischobulbum

By the way, the previous name used for this plant was Mischobulbum. The photo here is possibly M. wrayanum or M. crassum. Both are only separated by small details in the lip.
Regards, Daniel.

Mischobulbum sp

Thanks Daniel.

So will we label it as Mischobulbum sp. for now do you think?

Regards wellsy

Mischobulbum

The accepted name for Mischobulbum wrayana is now Tainia wrayana as per the RHS World Checklist.
M.crassum is now Tainia crassa. I have not seen any details or information on the differences of the lip of T.crassa, so I can't comment on that species.

You are correct

You are correct of course Bernard...sorry about the misundersatnding before and also that I did not bother to check the monocot list myself.

Tainia wrayana (Hook.f.) J.J.Sm., Bull. Jard. Bot. Buitenzorg, II, 8: 6 (1912). is most definitely listed as a synonym of Mischobulbum wrayanum (Hook.f.) Rolfe, Orchid Rev. 20: 127 (1912).

So until the lip differences can be sorted perhaps Tainia sp. is the go???

Regards wellsy

Tainia sp

Yes I agree, still, it will be interesting to find more info on the lip differences.
bernabu

lips found

T.wrayana: Lateral keels on lip equally thin along their entire length. Lip 14.5-18mm long.
T.crassa: Lateral keels on lip thickened distally. Lip 18-23mm long.
T. crassa only known from the type specimen collected at Ulu Gombak, Selangor, at 450m and differs
from T.wrayana in the texture and shape of the lip, distally thickened keels and longer psuedobulbs. Otherwise these two species are hardly different.
I suppose if Pak Sheikh obtained his plant locally it could be T.crassa.

when the plant flowers

Excellent Bernard....maybe Pak Sheikh can confirm the lip when the plant flowers again.

Tainia sp.

Thanks Guys..

Pak sheikh
