Dendrobium Avril's Gold
Why should I be the only one to suffer the pain of not owning this orchid, so I thought I'd share the agony with you.
Den. Avril's Gold is a hybrid between D. Aussie Child and D. speciosum.
Where:
D.Aussie Child = D. Hilda Poxon x Aussie Spectrum;
D. Aussie Spectrum = D. Peter x speciosum;
D. Peter = D. flecerii x falcorostrum; and
D. Hilda Poxon = D. tetragonum x speciosum
Phew, is that all?

Wow, an impressive number of
Wow, an impressive number of flowers on a great raceme. By any chance do you know if this one has 'Windermere' or 'Golden Fluke' as the speciosum parent? I have a very slow growing, still unflowered seedling of the 'Golden Fluke' cross. It's quite chunky but in no hurry at all to reach flowering size.
I don't know, but I'll ask
I don't know, but I'll ask the owner when next I see him and that is if he knows. I understand that this was its first flowering on a plant possibly 10 to 15 years old, so the speciosum could have been a Grandiflorum.
Goldy
I think I've seen this plant at Maribyrnong OC if I'm correct.
I'm also waiting for my Avril's Gold to flower. Geez they take so long to reach maturity. I might become a grandpa by the time mine flowers. LOL!!
Avril's
I have a mericlone of Avril's Gold 'Pumpkin Pie' from Australian Orchid Nursery which has grown quite quickly. In just a couple of years it's already as big as the other, which is more than ten years old and should flower next year I think.
RE: Avrils
The plants with grandiflorum as a parent are taking a very very very long time to reach maturity. I,ve had mine for 5 yrs now and it's still half way in size.
owner
Do you know the owner? I have never seen an Avril's with such a long flower spike. Is it possible to get a piece of this beauty?
availability
Do you know how I can get a division of this beauty? Has any one seen this plant and where at?
At this stage no
At this stage no availabilty. When the owner saw how smitten I was with this orchid, he promised to sell me just a back bulb, but only after it has put on a lot more new growths. The plant has only a few bulbs at this stage and it would be unwise to risk the plant by cutting anything off it just yet. I'm first in a very long queue
location
Do you know who owns this beauty? Where and when was this picture taken?
