Doritaenopsis Happy More x Dtps Perseus
I'm a bit confused by Doritaenopsis. Some of these bi-generic hybrids seems to my novice eye to be just like Phalaenopsis in the euphalaenopsis group, - large flowered plants with flowers all facing the same way. My plant Dtps Happy More x Dtps Perseus is flowering well but is this the right name? I can't find an image of Happy More or Perseus to check the parents. But I like this coloration

Doritis is now part of
Doritis is now part of Phalaenopsis papillon....has been for some time now.
Gets a bit confusing for sure with all the multigeneric hybrids in Doritaenopsis.
I think there has been a sort of a halt called on changing all the names until the mess is sorted out....Bill may have more info.

Doritaenopsis and Phalaenopsis
Hi Wellsy
I understand (so far as it goes) that Doritis is part of Phalaenopsis but what I find odd is that the form of many of the "hybrids" of Doritis and Phalaenopsis are so like Phalaenopsis. And we are still using the term Doritaenopsis to describe them. But if it's all in the wash I'll wait for more guidance

Dtps. and Phal.
Stephen, your plant names are fine.
Don't be confused by the genus name Doritaenopsis when they look like normal Phalaenopsis hybrids. It only takes one injection of Doritis blood to change the genus from Phal. to Dtps. Your plants have minimal Doritis in their background, Dtps. Happy More 1.56% and Dtps. Perseus 4.69%.
You mentioned above "euphalaenopsis group, - large flowered plants with flowers all facing the same way" that sounds good but it's the lip structure with two antennae-like appendages at the apex that separate them from the other two Phalaenopsis Group of plants, Zebrinae and Stauroglottis.
I asked the RHS Orchid Registrar if or when Doritaenopsis would be changed to Phalaenopsis, his Email response below
Hi Bill
I expect this to happen at some point in the future. Probably after the publication of the relevant volume of genera Orchidacearum in a few years from now.
Best regards
Julian.
So the merger is in the wash, we just don't know when.
Hope that helps to clear things up a little.

name clarification
Thanks Bill.
That's extremely helpful. I shall just enjoy the various Phal types as they are!
