Diuris behrii
Native Australian terrestrial orchid with a basal tuft of 3-6 narrow, grass like leaves, to 20 cm x 0.5cm and a central scape to 50 cm tall which carry 1 - 4 nodding flowers, 3-4 cm across.
These are bright yellow to golden and often have prominent dark stripes on the upper sepal and lip.
Flower from Sept to Nov, found in NSW, ACT Vic and SA. in moist to well drained soils in grassland, grassy forest and woodland.

Looks more like D lanceolata
Looks more like D lanceolata to me as D behrii has a broader labelum.
Sorry....
Definitely a D behrii West, came from a respected member of the Native Orchid Association here in Adelaide from rescued stock from land clearing in one of our local forests.
The Land Management Corporation identified them before clearing began, through the Botanical Gardens specialist who is in the association as well.
If HE says it is a D behrii, then IT IS a D behrii. ;o)) Who am I to argue with a botanical expert........... :o/
Also, the D lanceolata (Snake Orchid) comes from Tassy, this plant is from just out of Adelaide environs.

Anton
Ok D lanceolata is from
Ok D lanceolata is from Tassie, but a similar orchid in Vic and SA previously known as D lanceolate but more recently known as D chryseopsis looks a lot like the photo above, but if it is realy D behrii so be it.
So Says The Expert
I can only go by what the botanist says, it may be wrong, but as we can see in the T nuda thread there are so many fine differences between plants of the same species, that I go with "Them wot knows more than me." :o))))

substantiating photos
This is a good thing we have happening in this thread. Lets go a step further and make the effort to get some links to substantiating photos posted here if anyone can find some?

Curiouser and curiouser
NOW Wellsy, I am confused, every one of those flowers is different,.......... similar, but different. Hmmmmm ???
Where to from here ????? :o|
I could scan the image and put it up from our copy of :
"A Field Guide To The
Native Orchids of Southern Australia"
by David and Barbara Jones
And this one is closest to this flower.
Anton
variable species?
Yep...I noted they all looked different as well. Perhaps they are a variable species?

Diuris
I think we should put this one to sleep as Diuris behrii.
The links above and others on the Web for this genus are some what questionable.
West thought it was Diuris lanceolata, then D. lanceolate or D. chryseopsis. Diuris chryseopsis comes from NSW,TAS and VIC, not South Australia.
Anton has clearly stated the collection source location and the identification was by a working Botanist.
Bill
cool
sounds good to me.

It's a beautiful bloom,
It's a beautiful bloom, Anton. Regardless.
