Phalaenopsis hybrid

Phalaenopsis hybrid

Possibly Phalaenopsis Leda (Phalaenopsis amabilis x stuartiana) see discussion below.

Phalaenopsis hybrid

Good looking phal albert

Good looking phal albert

amabilis ????

Seems to be a problem with the lip on this one Albert, doesn't have the mid-lobe spurs and the lip is too broad for Phal. amabilis.

Bill

Yep...I don't believe this

Yep...I don't believe this one is P. amabilis either Bill.

Regards wellsy

So Wellsy, what is it

So Wellsy, what is it then?
Thanks
Albert

amabilis??

I tend to agree with Bill's observations; the following description is from the 'Manual of Cultivated Orchids' Lip fleshy, clawed, 3-lobed in basal half, up to 2.3cm broad; side lobes obliquely spathulate, erect; mid-lobe cruciforme, side arms short, triangular, acute, with two whip-like tendrels at apex; callus subquadrate, fleshy, 2-lobed. The obvious difference is in the shape of the mid-lobe, which in the image shown is not acutely triangular.
Hope this helps.

may be hybrid

I tend to agree with the below that it may be hybrid...not sure yet though

Regards wellsy

COULD BE A HYBRID!!

This could be a hybrid between stuartiana x amabilis

Nailed again Migocab!!!!

Well done Ian, you've nailed this one.

Primary hybrid Phal. Leda (stuartiana x amabilis) registered by Veitch in 1888. http://www.phals.net/amabilis/Leda

Bill

detective work

Good detective work by all here.

I think it may be more complex than just the primary P. Leda though. See how nicely filled in and rounded Alberts one is compared to the photo in the link that Bill has found.

Regards wellsy

I think I prefer Albert's

Albert's is certainly a better looking flower, well done Albert.

Anton

Albert

Hi Albert, can you remember where you bought this plant????

Bill

Phal

Hi Bill,
I have bought the plant years ago. I am sure there is a lable, but my wife can't find it and i am not at home to look for it. I think I bought it from Ian Walters, I think.
cheers
Albert

Albert's Phal

Thanks Albert, that's not the answer I was fishing for.

How about we leave this one for now and wait till your back in Australia????

Bill

Phals

Thanks Bill, thats an excellent idea- will do.
Albert

Wellsy

If the flower is too rounded then it is Phal. Leda x amabilis. Because this hybrid certainly contain stuartiana.

Ian

Phal. Leda x amabilis

I agree that could be a possibility ie: Phal. Leda x amabilis.

However at this time it could also be something more complex so how about we leave it labelled as I have done for now...see how I have referenced this discussion. What do you think?

Regards wellsy

That could work

Sure thing
