var. aquinii??
Hello Horst, is this a var. aquinnii ?????
Bill
var. aquinii
It is a 'aquinii' variety.
Within the orchid societies in Brazil is going on a big discussion about how to classify the different varieties.
In the case of all trilabeloide intermedias at this moment we are using, depending on the severity of the indent on the tip of the petals the convexity of the petals and the shape of the color pattern on the tip of the petals, 4 different varieties.
**1) pelórica >>>The tip of the petal has a very strong indent like the lip, has the colored spot on the tip of the petals and stripes in the center of the petals. The petals are strongly convex shaped.
**2) aquinii >>>This is similar to the original aquini plant found and registered in 1891. The indent is strong. The dark color pattern on the tip of the petals and the stripes in the center of the petals are present. The convexity is less strong as on the peloric form. Some people accept the name Aquinii only for the original plant from 1891. All others plants they call var. aquinóide
**3) flâmea >>>On this variety the color pattern on the tip of the lip doesn't draw a distinct line. Some times they have no indent sometimes they have an indent, but not as strong as on the aquinii.
**4) bergeriana >>>The indent is almost gone The spot on the petals are totally gone, but the large petal shape is still present.
I will post more information when I have better pictures and more details about the ongoing discussion.
For many of you and even for me it is sometimes confusing how to classify a plant.
Facts are: Some people always want to be the one who discover or grow a new variety. Then they declare and name the new variety. Some of the local or regional societies accept it, some doesn't. Brazil doesn't have a institution regulating the disagreements and the confusion goes on.
Hi Horst, WOW IS RIGHT!!!
