Identy help
Submitted by DIKTHAI on Fri, 15/08/2008 - 14:41
I've attached a couple of picture of an orchid that I have been growing but have no idea what it is. It is strange that from the flower what appears to be a root has sprouted and trails down towards the base. i have never seen this before and am surprised at the action of the plant. I should appreciate any info as to what the name of the orchid is and in advance thank anyone for some advice.

Identity help - solved!
Dick Dawson - I have solved my own mystery and have identified the orchid as an Angraecum praestans! Thanks for your consideration. It is truly a very beautiful plant.
praestans!!!!!!!!!!
Dick I don't think this is a praestans.
If not, what might it be?
Thanks for the comment and perhaps I am wrong but can you help and suggest what you might think that it is, if it is not a praestans?
Thanks.
Dick Dawson
What about
Angraecum magdalenae, does it have 1-5 fleshy large white flowers?
Eric
maybe not,
I have the current copy of the "Australian Orchid Review", and this looks a lot like the Amesiella monticola, pages 30-31. I may be wrong, but it is worth a look. I am probably wrong. Looking a second time, I am definetely wrong, sorry. the petels are too rounded to be your orchid. Maureen
Not near enough!!
Maureen, Amesiella is a miniature sp with a fuller shaped flowers than the one above. The plant shown above is an Angraecum.
sorry
sorry, the image was fresh in my mind as I only saw it last night and as a novice so to speak compared to others, I know nothing. Maureen
one of the Angraecums
I agree with Ian here Maureen...this one is fairly certain to be one of the Angraecums....at present I have no idea which one. We need an expert from that part of town I think.
Regards wellsy
As I said, Sorry
I will not be so game in the future to comment.
we value your input
hey Maureen...nobody meant to offend here. We are all just working towards the right ID so don't be sorry as we value your input.

Make way for the unknowledged
Guys, you are all very knowledgeable about orchids, there are persons out there that know a little only, I saw the pictures of the orchids and the info about the new fertiliser. I am advised by the media. That is all I have to go by + persons like Ken Smart and others that I talk to. Maureen
Angraecum
Ok, we know it's an Angraecum, which one????
Bill
Angraecum sororium
This is Angraecum sororium. The labellum is flat and the shape is not as full as magdalenae.
still wondering?
Hey Ian....compared to this one shown here http://www.orchidspecies.com/angsororium.htm I am still wondering?
Regards wellsy
More photos please!!!!!
We might need a front view picture of the plant for a further identification.
whole plant rather than the flower
I agree....a photo concentrating on the whole plant rather than the flower would be great.
