a brighter photo of Phal. Venolis. I'm a bit puzzled by the change from a hybrid name (as I understood this to be a X) to a specific name. But then there is lots I don't know about orchids!

Hello Papillon, we all get given info that isn't quite right.
If you were told this plant was a "x" plant meaning natural hybrid then that person should have told you the "x plant name". Just another case of word of mouth bad info without the facts being check.
Your plant was registered by Zuma Canyon Orchids in 1991.
