bay sellers stealing our images
Just a bit of a headsup for those good folks here who contribute (or even just love to visit) to the Orchids Online site.
We have noted a resurgence in the unauthorized use of images by some very unscrupulous users on the 'bay' to advertise their goods.
Please be vigilant if you are using that other popular seller and buyer service and if you notice images you may have seen on Orchids Online please let us know.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Ebay user's
I agree with you Wellsy. I've seen alot of photos from this site only to be used by sellers!!!!!!!
We should have our photos tagged or copyrighted.
bay sellers
Who or what are bay sellers?
bernabu
Bay Sellers
Bernabu that is EBay sellers.
Wellsy, Orchid Geeks somehow tags all images put into the galleries there, so that when you click on them to enlarge them there is a tag in the bottom right that says copyright Orchidgeeks.
Not sure how it's done, but could find out if you like, I know one of the Admins there.
Maybe it would be worth looking at here.

Anton
bay sellers
Thanks Anton, really appreciate it. I don't mind posting images for genuine members but I don't like the idea of someone profiteering from my goodwill.

copyright watermark
Thanks Anton, it would be worthwhile finding out how a copyright watermark is added so if you have a contact who could help that would be good.

Copyright mark
Hi, for what it is worth I put a copyright mark on my photos before I submit them (not that my photos are worth shouting about),I do it when I am resizing on my photo site using the text icon then putting the character map (which is in Accessories--System Tools)click the copyright sign select your print, click copy,go back to your photo site and click paste and type any other text in the text box then you should be able to place your text anywhere on the photo with the mouse.
Not being a computer geek I think that is what I do,if it does'nt work let know.
Regards Ken.
not only e-bay sellers
Hi Wellsy, we had a speaker at our society that sells and used to sell his orchids on e-bay, he got thrown out of e-bay. He spoke to us about Tolumnias, not that he did know much about them, but the pictures he showed were about 80% lifted of this web site, of couse all of them Bill's!! Bill knows about this fellow and I told my friends but it would be good to put a stop to this.
The reason for the sellers and others to use our pictures is, to flogg their second rate plants for too much money to unsuspected customers that get very dissapointed.
Christine
Christine u r rite, as I
Christine u r rite, as I have been one of those persons!!!! The foto of what they were selling def. was not wot I got.

bad sellers fade away
The best way is to simply do as you have done and spread the word. The orchid community is quite small and bad news travels surprisingly fast causing the bad sellers to fade away quite quickly.
Stick with those out there who have been around for a while and you will generally get what you thought you had paid for. Mistakes do happen from time to time....you get that.
