Hills District Orchids Winter Open Day

The Hills District Orchids Summer Open Day will be held this Sunday 27th July 2008.

Also attending on the day will be Tinonee Orchid Nursery (Ray Clement – 02 6553-1012) with a wide selection of orchids from seedling to flowering size as well as a range of hardware including the popular Orchidmate – chopped coconut in a number of grades , Macquarie Native Orchids (Mike Harrison – 02 4576-3290) – specialising in Australian Native orchids and special guest vendor Easy Orchids (Murray Shergold – 02 6682-2635) with a wide range of orchid species and hybrids – from tubestock to blooming size.

The Open Day is held at Hills District Orchids, 183 Windsor Road Northmead 2152 (next to “The Home Team”). Please park in Mary Street or Windermere Avenue.

Starts at 9am, going until 4pm. Light refreshments available on the day. Stay for the lunchtime sausage sizzle! Get in early for the first pick of many uncommon easily grown flowering sized species orchids (including Maxillaria, Coelogyne, Thunia & Dendrochilum), many starting at only $10- each! There will also be many complex slipper orchid hybrids (Paphiopedilum) in bloom for sale and a range of “softcane” dendrobiums (Dendrobium nobile hybrids),struck backbulb propagations of selected Laelia anceps varieties. Plus some unusual carnivorous plants (Nepenthes) ,Haworthia species and bromeliads – plus the rare pendulous Hoya linearis. A range of 2 year old+ Clivia miniata seedlings will also be available – including the uncommon pink and peach colour phases.

Hills District Orchids Open Days are now held seasonally, four times a year.

· Spring: First Sunday after October Long Weekend (12th October 2008)

· Summer: First Sunday in December [with Dark Star Orchids] (7th December 2008)

· Autumn: Last Sunday in February (24th February 2009)

· Winter: Last Sunday in July [with Easy Orchids] (26th July 2009)
