Ophrys insectifera - fly orchid

Distribution, Britain and near Europe. Full sun to shade, calcareous to neutral, dry to damp soils, especially on grassy banks, verges and open woodland. Flowering June-July. Inflorescence up to 30cm tall, 2-15 flowers up to 20mm long. Our summer has started when we see these orchids.
