B.arfakianum
Hi pawpaw, this looks like B.arfakianum, but the reticulation-like markings on the dorsal are not as defined as is usual. Also the dorsal sometimes rest inside the petals which are conjoined. We have previously discussed the confusion with this group of orchids, for example B.grandiflorum.

B. aff to grandiflorum
Hi Bernabu
I dont think my plant is B. arfakianum now called B. fraudulentum as my plant has flowers
up to 8 inches long on a 9 inch stem compared to B. fraudulentum having a 2 inch flower on a
6 inch stem. My B. fraudulentum flowers for a month or so early in the year. The plant in question
has a flowering period from Jan. to July with an odd flower now and then during the next 6 months.

Hold on a little Pawpaw, Bulb. arfakianum is not called Bulb. fraudulentum, they are two separate species.
What I really want to ask is this photo the same plant as your other entry for Bulb. grandiflorum at http://orchidsonline.com.au/node/3486

B.fritillariiflorum is a much smaller version of B. arfakianum 1+1/2 - 2" long. which I suspect is the one you are refering to. B.arfakianum has a much larger flower up to 5", but usually 4"long, very much like your picture. Most of the species in this group have minute 5mm curved terete petals. I still think that your images are B.arfakianum, although I don't mind being proven wrong.

B. grandiflorum
Yes mcorchid they are the same. The basket was last years flowering and the close up
of some flowers this year.Sorry I didnt check the monocot list have now. There are some book
authors and so called experts that lump the two together.

Change?
Eric, shall we change the name of this species image to B.arfakianum?

Name change
Yes bernabu by all means change the name to Bulb, arfakianum. Thanks for all the discussion on this plant, I'm glad I am finally able to put a name on my plant.
