This booklet has been conceived and compiled by John & Joan Sheath as an expression of our great love of the Sarcochilus orchids, and our wish to share this love with others.

This Second Edition is a greatly expanded and modified edition of one we produced in 2005, and was published to co-incide with the Inaugural Queensland Sarcochilus Festival held in conjunction with the Boonah Orchid Show, October 2007.

It has been a collective effort, bringing together personal contributions from a number of prominent Sarcochilus growers and hybridisers from throughout Australia…. Walter Upton, John Woolf, Lorraine Fagg, Ted Gregory, Neville Roper, Frank Simpson, David Butler, Phil Spence, Ted Elgood, Frank Vernon….to name a few.
Some contributors have spoken of their experiences of seeing these Sarcochilus orchids growing in their natural habitat….some, of their experiences in obtaining and growing ‘Sarcs’… and others, of their hybridising work.

The 72-page booklet contains 15 full colour pages containing 310 images … some of the many colourful Sarcanthinae species and hybrid images provided by the contributors, as well as another 35 colour images interspersed throughout … plus a 3-page ‘Basic Framework for Understanding Saranthinae Hybrids’ which covers hybridising within and between lithophytic and epiphytic species, producing classic and novelty hybrids to the 3rd generation.

There is evidence of a strong shared enthusiasm within this collection of contributions, allowing the reader to participate in a unique area of Australia’s pioneering history, and share in experiences binding together lovers of Sarcochilus orchids.
