Auction

The auction will be coming back when the new setup is completed. At this stage there is no way I can be specific when that will be I am sorry....Due to time constraints and my workload, it could still be a month or so (possibly longer).

I will be making announcements here on orchids online when it is relaunched OK.

NO for auction feature!!!!

Sorry Wellsy and West but I vote NO for the auction area to come back.

I've got no problem with selling plants but an auction for plants is the biggest rip off for new growers that don't know the real price for plants and where to buy them at a fair price.

I would prefer to see a dedicated 'for sale - wanted' area on this Website.

Bill

The people say YES!

Well popular opinion votes resoundingly - YES - to the return of the auction Bill.

The constant requests via email I get assure me of that.
I have been working very hard on setting it up over the last few months and I will have an announcement very soon.....watch this space!

It is also possible to have a 'wanted - for sale' area if people want that. Just say the word and I'll set it up.

Auction

It would be good to see the Auction back on line as I enjoyed both selling and buying from the site, and it is less of a 'Ripoff than a certain other auction that they have in the BAY,it would be good to also be able to purchase other non-orchid products that are used in the hobby, eg Camera's

Sales area

Thanks Zink, you agree that auctions are a rip off.

Wellsy, why do we need an auction area if we have a FOR SALE/WANTED AREA, we don't need both.

Auctions are bad news, as soon as the second bid goes in the sales price is inflated, I reckon leave the auction to that other site.

Bill

Auction

Hi everybody, I am sorry but auctions have a bit of a sour note with me. I know lots of budding orchid lovers that have burnt their fingers on a well known auction site. How can it be controlled, if every John Dick and Harry that want's to make a quick buck gets on this site to sell their orchids that most of them have not even grown themselves?? I went to an orchid sales show last year and saw how one of these gentlemen bought some (not very good) orchids cheap and put them up for auction there and then on their laptop.

I think a for sale and wanted site would be much better and this way the integrety of this site will not be blemished.
Christine

Auction

Count me out, I would much more prefer a "For Sale / Wanted" section.

My 2 petals worth.

integrity built upon our auction

Well Christine, I think I can confidently say that they would not have burnt their fingers on the Orchids Online Auction.

The auction at Orchids Online predates all the other features which are here on this site now.

There were in the region of 700-800 auction users when it died. Do we forget all about them?

It was also the area of most visitor activity even when the interactive area which died last year was at its peak.

No one will be forced to use it....we all will have a choice. It simply makes it easy for all concerned to buy or sell plants for a fair price without someone being lumbered with loads of administrative tasks.

Please remember. The integrity of this website was built upon our auction folks!

Regards wellsy

no rip offs here

The thing with an auction is it is a system which is automated with a fairly small overhead of work for anyone to administer. (That suits me fine as I already have enough to do)

It allows all sorts of people to buy (or sell) what they want...usually on the first and only bid....and the seller can simply accept that bid or not.

Over a long history here on Orchids Online there have been a great many happy buyers and sellers who most definitely have not been ripped off here.

NOTE: The auction here will be equipped with a buy it now option for a quick and easy sale for all to enjoy!

Auction

Hi Wellsy
how can you stop shoddy sellers coming on this site?? Is it then possible to complain in the comments, if what you bought is not what you expected and name the seller. As you know when you talk to people at shows, meeting ect. word goes around when growers have sold plants that were not up to scratch or have deseases. New orchid collectors do not have this sort of information. We all bought bad plants when we started and most likely paid too much, I have, but I also know that it has turned people off growing orchids and this is a big problem in the societies these day to get new (younger)members to join if they had a bad experience.
Sites like this are a great promoter of orchid growing, I always recommend new growers to have a look at this site, as a honest web site they can trust.
Christine

admin control is why

That is the reason we so vigorously control what is going on here at Orchids Online Christine.

Right now we are being flooded with quite nasty potential users who are being blocked or deleted as required by our hard working other admin (mcorchid).

Emphatically yes...I can assure you that shoddy sellers are not tolerated here.
In fact...All those who I have spoken to about the auction here at Orchids Online have nothing but good things to say.

Hey folks...can we please continue this discussion here http://www.orchidsonline.com.au/node/2893
Thanks...

I'd like to stay

with this stream of conversation, I've looked at the other node you would like us all to go to but there is no link back to all the comments above which are important.
