Bulbophyllum rothschildianum

Hi Takalaua, I have attached the image of the second variety of this species. This one is more robust and the flowers are 7" long. You may be able to see the raised spots on the lateral sepals. A drawback with this one is that it doesn't flower for me every year. But whichever one we have I'm sure we get the same pleasure.

Variation in this species.
Hi Bernabu, a very interesting variety of this species, it does not sit a flat as the other one - the lateral sepals are more downward turning. I am surprised by the lenght of them. Do you have the variety name of each of them?
Thanks I have really enjoyed what you have shared about this species.

rothschildianum
Hi takalaua, the species in the image shown is B.rothschildianum 'Red Chimney', I waited a long time to get a piece of this clone. Both our species are named B.rothschildianum. I know I mentioned that there were just two varieties, in fact there are two more much smaller sized clones with fewer, often just 2 or 3 flowers with the smooth lateral sepals which seperate just after midpoint. After that we get into muddy waters and start talking about Bulbophyllum ornatissimum, which hasn't been seen for over a hundred years, and yet some nurseries insist on selling various plants with this name.
