Dendrobium fairchildiae Ames & Quisumb.

Hi Steve,

I believe that your photos represent Dendrobium fairchildiae Ames & Quisumb., as the flowers have very a long mentum in accordance with that species. Incidentally, great photos - well composed and such a wonderful flowering.

Howard Wood says:

One of 2 Philippine species in section Calcarifera with the tip of the mentum bent backwards.

Plant habit grassy, like many other terrestrial dendrobiums. Stems slim, to 1.8 m. Leaf lanceolate, 13 x 2.2 cm. Inflorescences 1 or 2, erect, distal on bare penultimate lead, with up to 9 blooms. Flowers white usually with pink suffusion. Diameter more than 1.2 cm, mentum 2.5 cm.

Range: Philippines, Luzon above 2,300 m. Terrestrial and lithophytic in limestone area.

Cheers.
