Arachnis

Arachnis is widespread from Malaysia, New
Guinea and the Asiatic Tropics. At one time this genus was named Arachnanthe. Some taxonomists include Arachnis in the
Renanthera group. This genus is also used in hybridization with Vandas.
Arachnis are generally lowland tropical plants
and as such they thrive and grow well in warm, humid climates. They are sun loving and tolerate full sun. In fact they only
really do well when exposed to very strong light and given plenty of room to climb. They grow easily in conditions similar to
most Vandas. Dull, cool conditions will be the end for most Arachnis.
Given the right conditions it is not unusual for
Arachnis species to climb to the top of a fair sort of a tree in no time. As it is a good climber it is best to grow them in
pots with stakes or poles (especially a treefern pole) to give support to the plant. As the plant grows in length it will
twist and curve as it reaches for sunlight.
