Calanthe sylvatica (Thouars) Lindl., Gen. Sp. Orchid. Pl.: 250 (1833).

Distribution: Africa, Trop. & Subtrop. Asia

Unlike most of the species in this genus this one is epiphytic and found in Madagascar and Africa, in rain and montane forest, sea level up to 2000m altitude. Inflorescence erect up to 28" long. Few to many flowered. Showy flowers 1-2" across, white to lilac.
