Bulbophyllum makoyanum

Bulbophyllum makoyanum

Tribe: PODOCHILAEAE

Subtribe: BULBOPHYLLINAE

Edit from Bulb. unknown as per comments below.

Bulbophyllum majohannae may not be correct as the RHS Database does not recognise this as a valid species but the plant came to me with this name attached.

Anyone out there have any idea if it is better listed as another species?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Bulbophyllum makoyanum

correct ID?

can anyone help with the correct ID for this one?

Regards wellsy

dificult one

There are so many look alikes in this section that it is sometimes difficult to recognise the different species and to further complicate the situation there are a few hybrids appearing. I strongly beleive that if 'one' is unsure of a name it should be left unnamed, otherwise we would be in a right mess.

take your advice

thanks Bernard...I will take your advice and have changed the listing

Bulb. makoyanum

Bernard and Wellsy, I think Bulb. makoyanum is worth considering for this one.

Bill

could be

makoyanum? Perhaps it would help if we had a desription of the plant. Psuedobulbs, 2cm apart, 2cm long, broadly ovoid, ridged when old. Leaf 7-10 by 2.1cm, widest near rounded cleft apex, narrowed to a very short stalk. Scape purple, about 20cm long, with 10 flowers in a fan or circle. Dorsal sepal and petals reddish with darker spots and veins, lateral sepals pale yellow with purple spots in the basal half and a few towards the apex. Dorsal sepal 5mm long base broadly ovate, the apex produced to a thread, the edges with yellow hairs 1mm long. lip dark purple, tongue-shaped 2.5mm long blunt, finely spotted red. Flowers up to 4cm long. The flower umble is nearly always presented in a horizontal plane.

B. makoyanum

I agree with Bill. Possibly B. makoyanum. -daniel-

makoyanum

Looking at the picture......the leaves, long purple scape, the plane and presentantation of the umble, and the rounded dorsal with the apex producing a thread, it is more than likely makoyanum.

Bulb. makoyanum

So do we agree with Bulb. makoyanum or do we leave it as Bulb. unknown???

Bulb. makoyanum

I think Bulb. makoyanum is the go.
