The genus Acacallis was first described by John Lindley in 1853.
The name comes from the greek akakallis, nymph.

Comprising two showy species known in the Guyanas, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil and Peru.

Both species have flowers with blue or lavander.Plants produce a cluster of up to 10 flowers from the base of pseudobulbs.

Culture: Best grown in a basket or on a slab of cork. They require high humidity and a warm temperatures year-round with a moderate amount of shade.
