fimbriatum

A not often seen deciduous species which grows mainly on rocks/boulders from the Western Ghats'. This region was once an area of dense forest, today only one-third of the Western Ghats’ natural vegetation remains in pristine condition. Many remaining forests are highly fragmented and face increasing degradation.

The species name refers to the highly fimbriate dorsal sepal and petals. The pale ivory or light green coloured flowers appear when the two leaves from the bulbs have been shed.

These flowers look impressive when the pale green lateral sepals project horizontally away from the stem and the red/purple cilliate hairs stand out from the centre of the umble.
