Diiference between Bulbophyllum khaoyaiense and Bulbophyllum refractum
Submitted by Siaogu on Fri, 20/04/2012 - 14:57
Hey,
Recently i managed to purchase some Bulbophyllum khaoyaiense. After talking to a friend of mine, we had this little dispute over its identity, between B.khaoyaiense and B.refractum.
Anyone has any information on these 2 species to set them apart?
Cheers

The links above will help, I know nothing about these but from reading the info it seems to me that the plant growth is the biggest difference.

differences
Vincent, there are five look-alike species in this section: B.kanburiense, B.khaoyaiense, B.refractum, B.tripudians and B.wallichii.
According to Seidenfaden, the difference between the two species you mention are as follows:
B.refractum: Dorsal sepal 4-5mm broad; lip with a border of many ciliate nearly 1mm long hairs;
petals broad triangular, 3-4 mm long, very fimbriate-lanciniate at the edge; lateral sepals 40-50mm long.
B.khaoyaiense: Dorsal sepal about three times as long as broad or more; lateral sepals about 20mm long.
As you can see he gives more info on B.refractum.
Hope this helps.
