Diuris aurea is a terrestrial of the drier open areas of Australia. Very seasonal, the plants appear with the wet season, mature over the cooler months and flower in early spring. The seed is then produced in time for the early summer storms and wet season.
Diuris are known as 'donkey orchids' because of its donkey ear like upright petals or 'double tails' because of its usually crossed, longer lateral sepals.
