An extremely showy terrestrial genus having between 130 - 170 members. They grow from fleshy tubers in wet situations along gorges and also near waterfalls and creeks in their native habitat and as such can be very difficult to grow due to the requirement of having wet feet. In cultivation this often results in terminal rotting of the tuber
Becoming popular in the florist trade for the gorgeous red-orange flowers.
